Saudi Sex Scandal

Within Islam there are wide variations in social morals and taboo subjects.  A news story getting headlines currently is the story of Mazen Abdul-Jawad who was convicted for talking about sex on a Lebanese TV channel and sentenced to 5 years in prison and 1000 lashes.  Saudi Arabia vehemently protects its moral image with religious police and strict laws, while Lebanon is known to be much more Western and tolerant of varying moral standards.

Saudi FlagIt is widely known that Saudi Arabia clamps down hard on moral deviants, and sometimes the harsh application of the law gets media attention, especially in cases of seeming injustice.  The case of a woman earlier this year sentenced to 200 lashes because she herself was raped, sparked international outrage.

In this case however, the international community seems to be thinking 'he's getting what he deserved.'  I don't see any human rights organizations or the media coming to his defense... seems nobody wants to side with a pervert.
