Most pastors think Islam is dangerous

Very interesting research by LifeWay Research who just released some new data from a survey of Protestant pastors concerning their views of Islam. You can find the story at the Christian Post.  Ed Setzler also posted some of it on his blog.
"Islam is a dangerous religion" Most American Pastors say."

"More educated pastors are less likely to agree than those with less education. While 64 percent of pastors with a bachelor's degree or less strongly agree Islam is dangerous, only 37 percent with a master's degree or more feel the same way, and 25 percent of those strongly disagree.
I found the comments at the end of Ed's post more revealing and somewhat disturbing than the research.  Here's two quite contrasting comments in response to "Many of you who read this blog are pastors and church leaders. How would you have answered the survey question... and why?":

dangerous, violent, evil, demonic, all of the above. that being said, Jesus loves Muslims, and we must too.

I can't resist a comment here... how in the world do you reconcile preaching this on Sunday, and then going out on Monday and "loving Muslims" who you think are demonic, violent, dangerous and evil?

You know, I wonder if any of those pastors even know a Muslim, let alone have Muslims that they would consider friends...

I'm sure the way we feel when we see "christians" blow up abortion clinics or protest at the funerals of dead soldiers is the way most Muslims feel about 9/11 and subsequent events. I go to a Mosque every friday night and have dinner with my Muslim friends and I have found that it is the one percent of Islamic extremists that sadly have made a mark on the American mindset. try this: just type in "Muslims" into Google images and see what comes up. Osama Bin Laden does not speak for my Muslim friends, just like Fred Phelps, Pat Robertson and the like do not speak for me.

Muslims just need to know that we don't hate them, that Jesus is not gunning for America and that there is a place in the kingdom for them too.

My thoughts nearly exactly...
