Topic : Middle East Culture from America's Perspective

Middle East is often seen as a mysterious land that follows conservative customs and laws. But, the truth is that it is as normal a place to work and live as any other across the world. Though they follow Islamic religion which is not very modernized, there are no hard-and-fast rules to be followed. The conservatism is restricted to very few areas of the Middle East as those places are still trying to come out of the backwardness cultivated from decades of ignorance.

Topic : Middle East Culture from America's Perspective

As the Middle East spirals into another crisis, global leaders wonder how to solve the Hezbollah and Israel war. This situation has sent a shockwave through the international community. America stands as a possible loser. Arab Muslims watch America's move and view it as Western Imperialism. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice races to save the Middle East. Americans again braces for another threat of a "Third World War."

Let's go deeper. In reviewing this situation, an individual must understand region culture. America is dealing with the Arab world in a different cultural setting. In fact, it uses Western perspective. Clearly, this perspective is showcased in the media where Middle East experts of Arab descent are absent. Therefore, the Western perception often skews our coverage and understanding.

Finally, our American values appear to be in conflict with the international community. For example, America is the democracy builder. Can we, however, allow Iraqi or any other Middle East country to become an Islamic state? It isn't in America's best interest. America is Israel's ally. Can America remain neutral in this Middle East conflict? Would happens when the international community's values differs with a Super Power?

I've been playing with subtitles for some time... if anyone has some good ideas, I'm all ears. Currently 'A Plea for the West to make room for the East' but that has a few issues... it's conceptually impossible, and doesn't communicate the Muslim-specific nature of the book/site content. What do you think of 'A plea for Ishmael' or 'making room for the nations'? Dale

Ah, yes, the mystery. I work in different kinds of business, basically helping people learn to be self-sustaining and provide for their families, tithe to their churches, and live in such a way as to earn the right to share faith stories with others. I don't like the term 'full time ministry' as I think anyone who calls them self a believer in Jesus, is in it full time. I try to live holistically, my business, family, work, play, writing and spiritual life are all 'ministry.'

Many Christians are surprised to find out exactly how similar Muslims' beliefs are to our own. They believe for example that Jesus was a prophet, born of a virgin, ascended to heaven, and is coming back someday! How about that for a place to start an inter-faith discussion! Use this place to ask questions, and find answers. Dale

Obama's recent speech was a breath of fresh air amongst a host of negative voices recently from America against the Islamic world.
